General Volunteering

Ushering & Front-Of-House (FOH):

Every production requires volunteers to run our "front of house" (FOH) operations - ushering, box office, concessions, set up and clean up, raffles, and related duties.  These opportunities are perfect for those looking to get involved but do not have a lot of time to commit or are looking to "ease into" the theatre world. One perk of this position is that you get to see the show for FREE!

Event Volunteers:

We hold a number of fundraising and outreach events throughout the year, and we often need volunteers to help with planning, coordination, and general event staffing. Some such activities include: event staffing (check-in, set up, take down, etc.); festival tabling; parade marching; etc.

Other Opportunities:

We may have other volunteer needs pop up occasionally.

If you are interested in these opportunities, the first step is to sign up as a volunteer in our Volunteer Management System (Ludus). Once you are registered and confirmed, you can view and sign up for opportunities right in the system! We will also occasionally send out alerts about available opportunities.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

We are seeking volunteers to contribute to the successful operations and administration of Sock & Buskin! Even just a few hours a month can help and we’ll never expect more than you’re willing to give. We have opportunities for teens, too! Whatever your skill, we have a place for you.

Administration and Operations

Our current Board consists of three passionate and dedicated individuals, but we believe that together we can go further, do better, and inspire more.  Therefore, we are welcoming of individuals with the same passion, values, excitement, and commitment that we have to help us in the administration of Sock & Buskin Theatre Company, such as assisting with producing, event planning, operations management, etc. We encourage you to reach out with interest - even if you have limited experience in theatre!  We welcome fresh and diverse perspectives.

If you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors, we encourage you to first begin by volunteering to serve on production. Please note the following eligibilty requirements per our by-laws:

  • Directors shall be selected from those actively involved in the theater in Sock & Buskin Theatre Company as evidenced by having their name listed in the program of any S&BTC theatrical production in any position within the past two years. In addition, each Director must participate in an S&BTC theater production at least once per year during their term to be eligible for reelection.
  • Only those who are natural persons may serve on the Board of Directors. All Directors must be residents of Centre County, Pennsylvania, at the time of their nomination and election and for the duration of their terms of office.
  • At no time may any two Directors be from the same immediate family. An immediate family member is defined as a parent; sibling; child by birth, adoption, foster, or marriage; spouse; de facto partner; or grandparent or grandchild.

Clearances

In accordance with State Laws, Sock & Buskin requires clearances for all of its adult volunteers, cast, and crew that have regular contact with a minor on any of our productions. You will be notified if this is necessary; it is rarely needed for FOH volunteers.

See our How-To document for information on obtaining and submitting clearances.
