How The Mystery Works
1. Review party details before you arrive.
You will receive an email before the party at the email address you use when you purchased tickets. This will contain important information about the event.
2. When you arrive, mingle with the characters and ask questions.
Upon arrival, you will be given a set of suggested questions and things to say to each character. You may use these suggestions to have conversations with the characters; you may also add your own questions. Share notes with your fellow guests, if you'd like. Please be sure to arrive before 7pm so you have plenty of time to talk to all the characters!
3. Investigate the "murder" by reviewing evidence, searching for clues, and talking to suspects.
A "murder" will occur, and you must now crack the case. You will again be given a set of suggested questions and things to say to each character. There will also be evidence to review, and there may even be clues lying around the party. Keep your eyes peeled, ask questions, share notes, and solve the mystery!
4. Make an accusation.
After you've had a chance to investigate, you'll have the chance to guess who the murderer is and why they committed the crime. Winners have the chance to win prizes for their detective skills!
5. Enjoy the rest of the evening!
We will reveal the murderer, and then you are free to enjoy the rest of the evening.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age do you recommend? Can I bring my teenager?
This event is for adults 21+ only.
What does the ticket price include?
Your ticket includes entry to the party and participation in the mystery activities, appetizers and desserts. Your ticket does not include alcoholic beverages but they will be available for purchase.
Can I buy tickets at the door?
No, tickets will not be available at the door. You must purchase your tickets in advance. We recommend buying these early; they are expected to sell out quickly.
Do I need to wear a costume? Or is there a dress code?
No, you are not required to wear a costume. We just ask that you dress appropriately. Because this takes place a wealthy man's estate, we encourage you to "dress to impress" to immerse yourself in the story.
Do you provide costumes if I do not have one?
Unfortunately, at this time, we cannot provide costumes or accessories for those who do not have one.
Are there any restrictions to my costume? Is there a theme I need to follow?
Costumes are not required but we do encourage you to dress nicely for the will reading of a wealthy man. We also ask that you refrain from wearing anything too revealing, lewd, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate.
How does the "mystery" work? What do I have to do?
We have written out the details above - see the "How The Mystery Works" section!
Do I have to act or be "in character"?
Only if you want to! This event is designed for you to interrogate and converse with characters played by our actors. It does not require you to play a character yourself, but you are welcome to if you want!
Is this a show? How interactive is it? Do I have to talk to strangers or to actors?
This is NOT a typical performance. In fact, most of the evening involves unscripted conversations with the actors (you will not need to talk to non-actors if you do not want to). It is designed to be very interactive and engaging. To fully participate in the evening's activities, you will ask questions and engage with the characters. However, if you prefer not to interact as much, you can bring along a friend and listen to the conversations!
Is there a silent auction or raffle?
No, there is no auction or raffle at this event. We hope to bring back this element in our next mystery event.
Will there be prizes?
Yes! Those who correctly guess the murderer AND the motive will be entered into a drawing to win two tickets to one of our shows this year.
What if I have more questions?
You can email us at sockandbuskintc.org with any questions!
Will this be scary?
No, this is not a scary event. While there is a "murder" that takes place, it does so "off-stage". Characters certainly have their vices and may be seedy and of questionable ethics, but our intent is not to scare you.
